Summer Series #7 "Academics and How to Maintain Learning"

🌞 NHS Summer Series 🌞
Tips and Information to Help You Navigate Summer!
Panthers, the 7th week of our 8-week series will focus on “Academics and How to Maintain Learning”! Setting aside even just a half hour daily can help students prevent summer learning loss, close learning gaps, and perform at higher levels during the upcoming school year. Summer is an ideal time for students to strengthen their academic skills while still having plenty of time left over for summer activities. Here are some ideas to get you started:

🐾 Learn and practice affixes. Most multi-syllable words include prefixes and suffixes added to a base word and students can improve their reading and spelling skills by learning affixes.
🐾 Develop math skills by working on just a few problems daily (or more) as this can prevent these skills from getting rusty.
🐾 Improve reading comprehension by going to the public library to check out books of interest to your child.
🐾 Encourage creative writing by using a thesaurus to change common words to more interesting words.
🐾 Focus on specific skills your child had trouble learning and make sure to fit in some practice in these areas.

Information about these suggestions (and so much more) is available on the NHS website and particularly in the NHS Student Information Center (https://www.sbac.edu/domain/5439). Additionally, make sure to look back at the Tips and Information posted in prior weeks for more ideas.
