Application Process

  • The STEM Magnet at Stephen Foster Elementary is currently at capacity for the 2018-2019 school year.

    Applications for 2019/2020 can be found here beginning January 8, 2019.

    The application process has been changed this year. All interested students must complete a district online application. It will be available after the winter break. Paper applications will be available in the front office.  Paper applications will be forwarded to the district office for data input. 

    STEM Magnet Placement Test 

    Students wishing to be considered for the magnet program must schedule a placement test. The placement test includes an above level reading comprehension task and a cooperative learning activity. The placement test dates are as follows:

    January 22, 2019 2:30-4:00

    January 23, 2019 1:30-3:00

    January 23, 2019 3:00-4:30

    January 28, 2019 2:30-4:00

    January 30, 2019 2:00-3:30

    February 7, 2019 2:30-4:00

     

    Please click here to sign up for a placement test. (beginning January 7, 2019) You must ALSO complete an application to be considered for the program.

     

    2019-2020 School Year Timeline:

    Open House is Monday, January 14, 2019 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Students and parents are welcome.

    January 8, 2019 - Application Opens - online app available on the ACPS homepage and paper copies will also be available at each school
    February 8, 2019 - Application Closes - online app closes at 11:59 pm and paper apps must be postmarked by this date
    February 11, 2019 - Schools will receive a spreadsheet of ALL applicants to their program
    February 19, 2019 - Schools submit acceptance list to district office
    February 25, 2019 - First round etters mailed or emailed to families
    March 8, 2019 - First round parent/student Commitment deadline
    March 15, 2019 - Second round of letters mailed or emailed
    March 29, 2019 - Second round parent/student Commitment deadline

    Applications are due February 8th. For non-public school students, all supporting documentation including report card and assessment scores are due Feb. 8. Documents must be uploaded to the district application.
