The Lyceum Overview
-
Founded in 1994, The Lyceum is the premier middle school magnet program in Alachua County. All students at each of the three grade levels have the same core academic teachers. The Lyceum is a program for bright, motivated, and talented students who want to develop a strong, rigorous, well-rounded education. Our goal is to provide our students with an academic foundation that will lead them to success on any path they choose in high school, university, and beyond.
Community Service
-
We believe community service is an important component of a well-balanced middle school experience. Community service allows students to explore their interests and develop a passion for helping others. It also helps students hone their time management skills as they learn to balance a rigorous school load and still continue to have time for family, friends, and others. We are especially proud that our students donate over 11,000 hours of community service a year as they maintain some of the highest academic standards in Alachua County.
While community service hours are no longer required for all Lyceum students, community service is expected for students that participate in the National Junior Honor Society. All NJHS students will complete 36 hours per year. Some opportunities are available at school but most take place outside of school. Students can complete up to 9 hours during the summer. More information about NJHS will be available in the fall for new Lincoln students.

Over the past several years, over half of our 8th -grade students chose to attend the International Baccalaureate Program at Eastside High School. In a typical year, Lyceum students make up approximately half of the entire IB class. As the Cambridge Program has grown at Gainesville High, more of our students have chosen to go there. Typically, our students do very well and tell us they feel very prepared for the rigorous curriculum of either the IB or Cambridge programs.
