The Guidance Department is a place for students and parents to receive help and knowledge when needed for a multitude of services.
Students and Parents can access a variety of websites through various links below concerning College and Career Counseling as well as the internet links and Scholarship information sections. These links can help you explore the financial aspects of paying for college and how to meet deadlines when applying for scholarships or loans. There are links that will take you to outside resources that can break down the college experience for you and even help you determine what college might be best for you based on location, size, cost, and course of studies offered.
Hawthorne Middle/High School is pleased to be a partner in the federal TRIO program Educational Talent Search. The goal of ETS is to keep students on track to graduate from high school and enroll in the college or vocational program of his/her choice. The path leading to college can be scary and unknown to many parents and students. ETS helps to make this process easier by reminding students of what they need to do, when they need to do it, and offering hands-on assistance.
Services are free and include:
- monthly meetings to track progress toward meeting criteria for college acceptance/enrollment; guidance with course selection;
- career/college major exploration;
- study skills and test-taking strategies;
- college and university campus tours; and
- hands-on assistance in completing college applications and financial aid forms.
Students can receive an application from Ms. Bates in Guidance or contact our ETS Advising Specialist, Jodi Doher at Jodi.firstname.lastname@example.org. While all students are eligible to apply, ETS gives special consideration to income-eligible students who will be the first in their family to complete college.
