      A MESSAGE FROM CINDY BOULWARE,
    GHS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR:

The athletic program at Gainesville High School is rich with history and tradition. As we continue to be proud of the records and accomplishments of our student athletes, we will not compromise our principles in order to win. We believe that class, character, and sportsmanship are essential to all competition and that athletics support the academic mission of schools, they are not a diversion but rather an extension of a good educational program students who participate in athletic programs tend to have higher grade-point averages, better attendance record, lower drop-out rates and fewer discipline problems than students generally. Athletics are inherently educational. Athletic programs provide valuable lessons on many practical situations- teamwork, sportsmanship, winning and losing, and hard-work. Through participation in athletics, students learn self-discipline, build self-confidence, and develop skills to handle competitive situations. These are qualities the public expects schools to produce in students so that they become responsible adults and productive citizens. Athletics foster success in late life. Participation in High School athletics is often a predictor of later success-in college, career, and becoming a contributing member of society.

In the past several years, GHS has been highly recognized on both the academic and athletic level. In addition to maintaining a solid ‘A’ grade since 2012, we have also received two of the most prestigious awards given for athletics. The Florida High School Athletic Association’s Floyd Lay All-Sports Award was given to GHS in 2012-2013 as the top 6A athletic program in the state; as well as the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Corey McDonald award for 6A Athletic Program of the Year.

Remaining a 6A classified school; our team sports are competing in a new district alignment from Fall 2015 until Spring 2020. This group of Gainesville and Ocala are schools include Citrus County, Forest, Lake Weir, Vanguard, and Gainesville. We encourage you to challenge yourself by joining one of out 31 winning teams!!

    GO 'CANES!
