Message From the Principals

  • Dear Newberry Elementary Students and Families,

Greetings! On behalf of the Newberry Elementary faculty and staff, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to you this school year. A new school year is always an exciting time to reconnect with friends and welcome new friends. At Newberry Elementary, we are delighted to welcome those students and families who are new to our school community. We hope that you will quickly feel at home and become involved in the many activities that support our students.

Our faculty and staff are committed to academic excellence for every student. We believe it is the responsibility of the school community to encourage and support a positive, safe learning environment where every child reaches his or her maximum potential.

It is the responsibility of the school staff, parents, and community to facilitate and foster a school climate where all members of the school community appreciate and value the contributions of a diverse student body. We will reach these goals through fostering a positive and welcoming school culture where families are partners in their child’s education. All students will feel safe, valued, and cared for. Our dedicated teachers will maintain high expectations for all students while delivering quality, standard driven, instruction that is differentiated to meet individual student needs in a positive and safe learning environment. We all share responsibility for achievement!

This year, as a school community, we will be participating in a special literacy initiative called, One School, One Book. Every student will receive a copy of The BFG {Big Friendly Giant}book by Robert Dahl. Families will be encouraged to read The BFG aloud with their child throughout the year. You can also look forward to guest readers who will be recorded and  featured on our website reading aloud to our students. Teachers will be providing students with a timeline of readings; as well as, meaningful activities that complement the readings. Many important lessons including dreams, bravery, acceptance, and friendship are also reflected in The BFG book. Our hope is to continue to build a community of readers at Newberry Elementary as we know that reading aloud to children prepares and strengthens literacy and is also fun!

Safety of students is of our utmost importance. With that being said, there are some changes as it relates to parking, parent pick up, and dropping off that will take effect on the first day of school for the 2019-20 year which is Monday, August 12, 2019. You will find this information located on the left tool bar of this page. I appreciate your support!

Newberry Elementary is truly a wonderful school!  It is my hope that through communication, collaboration, and a strong partnership with families, Newberry Elementary will continue to be a school of academic excellence for our all of our students. We have so much to be proud of as school and community. I look forward to a wonderful year ahead! Go Panthers!

    Kind Regards,

    Vicki McAlhany
