Shane Andrew, Superintendent

  • Shane Andrew has been serving the students and staff of Alachua County Public Schools for more than 31 years. Shane Andrew

    Mr. Andrew is actually a product of the school system, having attended Glen Springs Elementary School and Westwood Middle School and graduating from Buchholz High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Florida, and later his master’s degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.  

    Mr. Andrew’s professional experiences cover a wide range of positions in schools throughout the district. He began his career at ACPS in 1990 as a substitute teacher at Gainesville High School, where he also coached freshman baseball. He became a full-time social studies teacher at Hawthorne Middle/High the following year. He also served as  the sponsor for several student groups, coached a variety of sports teams, and later became the school’s athletic director. In 1999 he was named dean at the school, then was promoted to assistant principal.

    In 2006, Mr. Andrew was selected as the assistant principal for Mebane Middle School in the City of Alachua, where he implemented the Discovery Education ThinkLink progress monitoring system to provide teachers with real-time student data throughout the school year. Three years later he was named the school’s principal.

    In 2010, Mr. Andrew was chosen as principal for Newberry High School. Under his leadership, the school earned its first ‘A’ grade based on the academic achievement of its students. It earned another ‘A’ grade the following year.

    Mr. Andrew moved to the district office in 2013 to serve as the Executive Director of Facilities. During his tenure, the district earned the U.S. Green Ribbon Schools District Sustainability Award for excellence in energy efficiency, health and wellness, and environmental education.

    In 2016, Mr. Andrew became the principal at Eastside High School.  There he implemented the College Board AP Capstone Program schoolwide to help all students develop research, teamwork and communication skills through advanced coursework. In collaboration with school and district staff, he also implemented the school’s Medical Skills Career-Tech program, which has successfully prepared students for continuing education and work in the healthcare field.

    After five years at Eastside High, Mr. Andrew was promoted to Chief of Operations for the district. In that role, he has been responsible for providing effective leadership, direction and oversight for several key district functions, including human resources, professional development, facilities construction, maintenance and planning, and student transportation.

    During his career with the district, Mr. Andrew has served in leadership roles with statewide organizations including the Florida Educational Facilities Planners’ Association and the Florida League of Middle Schools.

    Mr. Andrew and his wife Devonia spend a great deal of their free time supporting and mentoring many children within their families, neighborhood and the community.
