Williams Elementary Magnet Program

  • Alachua County Public Schools and Williams Elementary are seeking candidacy for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Once candidacy is approved in Spring of 2024, the authorization process will begin for Williams Elementary School, in the fall of 2024. The Williams Magnet will offer a stimulating, challenging learning environment that nurtures the whole child and fosters a lifelong love of learning in ALL students.

The Williams Magnet will cross subject areas and grade levels, and is based on a model that has been successfully implemented in schools throughout the world, including here in Florida. It is recognized internationally for educational excellence.

That means ALL students at Williams Elementary, from Kindergarten through 5th grade, are seeking candidacy into the IBY PYP, including those currently enrolled in the existing magnet program. Parents of students currently enrolled at Williams or zoned to attend the school in 2024-25 will NOT need to apply.

Students throughout Alachua County can apply through the magnet application process. The magnet application window runs through 4 p.m. on February 13, 2024. The application and more information about magnet programs are available at www.sbac.edu/magnet.

"In order to become an IB World School, a school must be authorized by the IB to offer one or more IB programmes." There are 3 stages in the authorization process: Consideration; Request for Candidacy; and Candidacy. We are in the process of completing both the Consideration and Request for Candidacy phases and anticipate completion and readiness to enter the Candidacy phase July 2024. On this page you will find more information about the Williams Magnet and the process to become an IB PYP Candidate School.
