Night Program

  • There are two separate night courses:

     1.  Lab only (behind the wheel training) course is for high school students who have completed the classroom portion of  driver education, either in a brick and mortar school or Virtual school, or who are currently taking driver education as an elective at their school during the normal school day.

    Additional Requirements

    • Students must be an Alachua County Resident
    • Students must be 15 years of age and have a valid Learners Permit

    Registration

    • Call the Traffic Safety Center at (352) 955-6959, from 8 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.  Bring the $50 lab fee (cash, check or money order) to the first day of class.
    • Space is limited – class will be filled on a first come – first serve basis
    • Students must be registered one week prior to the lab starting date (see schedule below)

    Notes

    • There are five, 6-day labs available for fall semester.

    • Attendance is mandatory – six drives required. Students will not be tested if missing lab days
    • Lab student must be in “good standing” and have passing grade in classroom to attend lab.

     

    2.  Classroom and lab course designed for students not taking driver education during the regular school day or virtually.  Students will earn a half elective unweighted credit.

    Course Dates: August 23 - December 2, 2021
    Holidays (no classes): September 6, November 11; November 22-26
    Registration: Accepting Applications August 3, 2021.  There is a $50 lab fee.

    Times

    Initially, the class meets Mondays and Thursdays. Beginning September 20th one class will meet on Monday and Wednesday (lab day) and the other class will meet Tuesday (lab day) and Thursday.  All classes meet from 5:30 - 8:00 pm.

    Spring Semester

    Course Dates: Janauary 24 - May 12, 2022
    Holidays (no classes):  March 21 - 25, 2022

    Registration:  Accepting Applications January 4, 2022.  There is a $50 lab fee.

    Times

    Initially, the class meets Mondays and Thursdays.  Beginning February 28, 2022, one class will meet on Monday and Wednesday (lab day) and the other class will meet on Tuesday (lab day) and Thursday. All classes meet , 5:30 - 8:00 pm

    The staff at the Traffic Safety Center will do everything possible to prepare you for your final driving test, but we do not guarantee that you will pass. Excessive absences, as well as other factors, may prevent you from obtaining the skills needed to achieve a passing score.
