Night Program

    There are two separate night courses:

     1.  Lab only (behind the wheel training) course is for high school students who have completed the classroom portion of  driver education, either in a brick and mortar school or Virtual school, or who are currently taking driver education as an elective at their school during the normal school day.  We still have space available in our LAB ONLY Sessions! 

    Additional Requirements

    • Students must be an Alachua County Resident
    • Students must have a valid Learners Permit
    • Proof of Driver Education Course Completion

    Registration

    • Registration begins August 3, 2023 
    • To register, call the Traffic Safety Center at (352) 955-6959, from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. 
    • Bring the $100 lab fee (cash, check or money order) to the first day of class 
    • Space is limited – class will be filled on a first come – first serve basis
    • Students must be registered one week prior to the lab starting date (see schedule below)

    Notes

    • There are five, 6-day labs available for fall semester.

    • Attendance is mandatory – six drives required. Students will not be tested if missing lab days

     

    2.  Classroom and lab course designed for students not taking driver education during the regular school day or virtually.  Students will earn a half elective unweighted credit.  

    Requirements

    • Students must be 15 years of age

    Registration

    Fall Semester

    Course Dates: August 21 - December 7, 2023
    Holidays (no classes): September 4, October 16,  November 20-24
    Registration: Begin Accepting Applications: August 3, 2023 thru August 18th, 2023. There is a $100 lab fee.

    Times

    Initially, the class meets Mondays and Thursdays. Beginning September 25th one class will meet on Monday and Wednesday (lab day) and the other class will meet Tuesday (lab day) and Thursday.  All classes meet from 5:30 - 8:00 pm.

    Spring Semester      

    Course Dates: January 22 - May 09, 2024
    Holidays (no classes):  February 19,  March 11 - 15, 2024

    Registration:  Begin Accepting Applications: January 8, 2024.  There is a $100 lab fee.

    Times

    Initially, the class meets Mondays and Thursdays.  Beginning February 26, 2024, one class will meet on Monday and Wednesday (lab day) and the other class will meet on Tuesday (lab day) and Thursday. All classes meet , 5:30 - 8:00 pm

    The staff at the Traffic Safety Center will do everything possible to prepare you for your final driving test, but we do not guarantee that you will pass. Excessive absences, as well as other factors, may prevent you from obtaining the skills needed to achieve a passing score.
