African and African American Studies
Mission: To develop and infuse African and African American studies into the Alachua County Public Schools curriculum to foster the discovery and empowerment of all students.
Vision: To create a culture of inclusiveness and respect for all cultures through the infusion of Afrocentric content throughout the district curriculum.
Short Term Goals:
- Further develop the district's African American studies curriculum to include more STEAM lessons.
- Develop and teach rigorous local standards for the teaching of African and African American studies.
Long Term Goals:
- Achieve national exemplary status.
- Infusion of African and African American Studies into the Social Studies, Humanities, and STEAM curricula.

African American Studies Curriculum
African and African American Studies explore the contributions of individuals of African descent exploring literature, art, music, innovations and customs. African and African American Studies an be found across all areas of curricula including Eglish/Langauge Arts, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. As such, the African American Studies Curriculum has been developed to ensure that Africam American Studies are infused K-12 in all subject areas.

Exemplary Status is a designation given by the Commissioner of Education's African American History Task Force to districts for the creation of a K-12 African American Studies curriculum, professional development to support that curriculum, and creating partnerships with the community and local universities.
