Scholarships
Why are scholarships important?
Scholarships provide an opportunity for many people to earn an education because scholarships are free money. Without assistance from an outside source, students may have trouble paying for the degree they need in order to enter the workforce. Most Scholarships cannot be applied for before the Senior Year.
If a website or organization asks you to pay for information, please do not give them the information or payment. These are usually fraudulent organizations.

St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Scholarship (Deadline 6.14.24)
The St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church "Doris Livingston Scholarship of Community Service" application is now available. The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. is offering a $3,000.00 scholarship to students planning a career related to gardening, landscape design, environmental issues, floral design, or horticulture. Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) Scholarship (Deadline 4.26.24)
The 2024 (Florida School Counselor Association) FSCA Scholarship applications are now available to all 12th grade students. FSCA will award four high school scholarships for $250.00 each and three graduate student scholarships for $500.00 each. All application materials must be received by 5:00 pm Friday (April 26th). Clay Electric Cooperative Inc. Scholarships (Deadline 4.1.24)
Clay Electric will offer 25 college scholarships this year to high school seniors, each worth $2,000.00. The scholarship program is limited to any public, private or homeschooled high school 12th grade student whose home is served by Clay Electric and who will graduate at the end of the current school year.The Clay Electric youth scholarship program is funded by unclaimed money that would normally have to be turned over to the state. A 2003 bylaw amendment allows Clay Electric to keep this money in an educational trust to fund the scholarship program. The selections are based on community involvement, extra-curricular and academic achievements. The Mark Wandall Foundation Scholarship (Deadline 3.31.24)
The Mark Wandall Foundation is proud to offer scholarships to graduating seniors and/or young adults (age 25 or younger) who are residents of the State of Florida seeking post-secondary education and who have suffered the death of a parent, sibling, or guardian. The distribution of funds will be determined after all scholarship applications have been received. Southern Scholarship Foundation Housing Scholarship (Deadline 3.15.24)
Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF) provides rent-free cooperative living housing scholarships for students with financial need, good character, and strong academic merit. SSF provides housing scholarships, not monetary support. Central Florida Electric Cooperative Scholarship (3.14.24)
SENIORS: Central Florida Electric Cooperative is continuing its scholarship program this year and will offer a $2,000 scholarship to one graduating senior from Newberry High School. The Education Foundation of Alachua County JumpStart Scholarships (Deadline 2.20.24)
The Education Foundation of Alachua County is offering TWO JumpStart scholarships, which cover 30 credit hours at a Florida state public college or the equivalent value at a Florida public university or technical college. One scholarship is for students interested in the medical field and the other is for those interested in education jobs. Florida Black History Month Essay Contest (Deadine 2.7.24)
Governor Ron DeSantis’ and First Lady Casey DeSantis’ Black History Month Essay Contest is open to all students attending any Florida school in grades 4-12 (public, charter, private, home or virtual). Six winners will be selected: two elementary school student (grades 4–5), two middle school student (grades 6–8) and two high school student (grades 9–12). Each winner will receive a 2–Year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation and a $100.00 gift card for school supplies.Entries can be mailed to Volunteer Florida, Black History Month Committee, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Suite 250, Tallahassee, FL 32308, or submitted electronically through the online submission form. Florida Credit Union Dr. John C. Rawls Scholarship (Deadline 2.2.24)
The Dr. John C. Rawls Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. John C. Rawls, a member of the Board of Directors since 1957. Over his 55 years of service, Dr. Rawls served on the board as President, Vice President, Secretary, Chair and Treasurer. During a nine-month period in the 1990s, he served as the interim CEO of the credit union until a new CEO could be found.
The award is open to students planning to further their education who are enrolled or plan to enroll during the current year in undergraduate or graduate study. Recently graduated high school students are not eligible for this scholarship. Interested applicants must first qualify by being an FCU member or having parent or guardian who is an FCU member.
Interested parties must complete and print the application and submit the following information:
- An Official Student Transcript from all institutions attended
- Two letters of recommendation (from either an instructor, an employer or a co-worker)
- A resume and list of extra-curricular activities, volunteer involvement and professional experience, citing any leadership activities.
- An essay to provide a better profile of who you are, your goals, what this scholarship would mean to you and how it would benefit your academic pursuits and future career goals. The essay must be typed and must be a minimum of 300 words.

Florida Credit Union Servin-Ellis Scholarship (Deadline 2.2.24)
The Servin-Ellis Scholarship Fund was originally established in memory of the first treasurer/manager of FCU, Oscar Servin. In 1997, the fund was renamed to also honor Dr. Jonnie Ellis, a board member who served from 1987 to 1997 and served as Chair from 1993 to 1996. The scholarship fund is awarded annually in May and is divided among more than one recipient.
The award is open to any high school senior who is enrolled or plans to enroll in the current year in undergraduate study. Students interested in applying must first qualify by having a parent or guardian who is an FCU member or by being a FCU member themselves.
Interested students must complete and print the application, and submit the following information:
- Transcript of student grades from all school districts attended
- Two letters of recommendation; one should be from a school official (principal, teacher, guidance counselor, etc.) and one from a community member (coach, religious leader, scout leader, employer, etc.)
- List of extracurricular activities, including dates of participation and leadership positions held (if applicable).
- An essay providing a better profile of who you are, what this scholarship would mean to you, and how this scholarship will benefit you in your academic pursuits and future career goals. The essay must be typed and be a minimum of 300 words.

Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials Essay Contest (Deadline 1.22.24)
The Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO) is sponsoring a statewide essay contest on the topic of Social Media use in Florida.This contest is for current 11th and 12th grade students in FBC-LEO member municipalities pursuing post-high school education. This contest will encourage students to learn and write about the positive and negative consequences of social media use in Florida and discuss how it shapes individuals’ perspective and experiences within the unique and diverse makeup of the Sunshine State. The winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship for the Florida college or technical career institution of their choice. The selected essay will be published in the association’s newsletter, and the winner will be recognized at the President’s dinner during the FBC-LEO Spring Conference on April 4, 2024.Entries must be submitted by January 22, 2024, at 5:00 pm and essays will be judged by a committee comprised of members from the FBC-LEO Board of Directors. Florida Retired Educators Foundation Scholarship (Deadline 1.20.24)
This scholarship is available to any student who is interested in becoming a teacher.
Eligibility criteria is as follows:
- Graduate from Florida high school (public or private)
- Unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Minimum test scores
- SAT 1000
- ACT 22
- MUST attend an accredited Florida college/university (public or private)
- MUST teach in Florida following graduation

National FFA Scholarships (Deadline 1.11.24)
The National FFA Organization offers scholarships to current members of FFA who plan to pursue a degree or certificate in specific areas of agriculture. Selection is based on FFA involvement, work experience, supervised agricultural experience (SAE), community service, leadership skills, and academics. The FFA manages many scholarships; however, only one online application is necessary. Scholarships are available to match a wide variety of skills, experiences, career goals and higher-education plans.
The 2023-24 scholarship application opens Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023. To apply, please ensure you have the following:

The Florida Eastern Star Grant Program (Deadline 1.1.24)

Santa Fe College Achieve

What Is Santa Fe College Achieve?
SF Achieve provides students with mentoring opportunities right inside their high schools – coaching them on career exploration, time management, financial aid and more. That level of mentorship will continue after students enroll at Santa Fe College, along with a stipend to cover the costs of textbooks. Eligible students will also qualify for a full-tuition scholarship that picks up where financial aid leaves off, helping to pay for up to 60 credit hours at Santa Fe College. With 60 credit hours, students can earn:
- an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree if they want to transfer to a university;
- an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree or certificate if they want to enter the workforce; or,
- a Bachelor's Degree, if they first earn an A.A. at Santa Fe College through high school dual enrollment.

Who can become an Santa Fe Achieve Scholar?
Any student attending a local public high school grade can sign up now for Santa Fe College Achieve. There is no minimum GPA, and you can be in any grade level. Signing up doesn't mean you are required to attend Santa Fe College, but if you decide to do so, you will be on track to earn the Santa Fe College Achieve Scholarship. Once you sign up, your Santa Fe College Achieve specialist will contact you to discuss your next steps.

Guaranteed Transfer Program
Florida’s statewide articulation agreement guarantees that all students who earn an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree at a public college in the state will be granted admission to one of the 12 public universities in Florida. In addition to this statewide articulation agreement, Santa Fe College maintains several direct articulation agreements with the University of Florida, University of North Florida, Florida A&M University, New College of Florida, University of South Florida, University of West Florida, and the University of the Virgin Islands. All of these direct articulation agreements guarantee Santa Fe College students admission to these partner universities.

Every public high school in Alachua and Bradford County has an Achieve specialist onsite, providing college coaching for SF Achieve students and acting as a resource for parents and guardians. These specialists will host workshops about the SF Achieve program as well as other financial aid and college success topics.

Basic Information
Santa Fe College offers numerous scholarships through the Santa Fe College Foundation to provide funds to support the students at Santa Fe College. The Foundation approved to award over 670 scholarships valued at approximately $1,627,000 for the 2021-22 academic year.

General Requirements
The general requirements to be eligible to apply for the scholarships are as follows:
- Be a U.S. Citizen with in-state fees.
- Plan to enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours) at Santa Fe College. A few scholarships allow for part-time enrollment.
- Be degree seeking. Most scholarships require AA, AS, or Certificate. A few scholarships allow for bachelors.
- High School students or students that have never attended college must provide official high school transcripts showing a minimum 2.0 GPA. Official high school transcript must be submitted to Office for Advancement. Incoming/transfers students must provide official college transcripts to Office of the Registrar for processing.
- Complete the online scholarship application.

The Education Foundation of Alachua County Senior Scholarship Program

The Education Foundation of Alachua County has opened the application for its Senior Scholarship program for spring 2024. High school seniors in the Alachua County Public Schools system can apply here beginning January 5, 2024 until February 20, 2024.
Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 for Alachua County Public Schools seniors who meet the scholarships’ criteria. Last year, The Education Foundation awarded $221,000 to 60 students through a Senior Scholarship. Forty-two local families, businesses and civic organizations have partnered with The Education Foundation to make these scholarship opportunities possible.
Students must complete one application to be considered for the more than 60 available scholarships. You can see a complete list of available scholarships here. Additional information regarding documents seniors will need to submit with the application include letter(s) of recommendation, a full high school transcript, and a personal resume detailing academic and extracurricular activities. Once the student has submitted the general application, students should return to the dashboard tab and confirm completion of any follow-up work. Some Senior Scholarships have additional requirements to complete in order to be eligible for that specific scholarship.
Timeline:
- The scholarship application opens on the website – January 5, 2024
- Application closes – February 19, 2024
- Preliminary grading of applications – February 21 – March 9, 2024
- Sponsors review and select recipients – March through April 2024
- Students notified of winning via email at end of April or early May, 2024

- The application for spring 2024 will open on Thursday, January 5, 2024, and close on February 19, 2024.

- Answer a general questionnaire detailing general academic and financial information.

- Describe your plans for college education and your future career goals.
