Flexible Pathways to Clear Goals

Teachers must honor each student’s strengths and needs and offer tools and options for students to use if necessary for them to demonstrate mastery of learning goals. This does not lead to lower expectations; this leads to flexible pathways to clear goals. Whether or not students have 504s, IEPs, or EPs, they should be encouraged and supported to understand their strengths and needs and choose pathways to clear goals which allow them to demonstrate their mastery of those goals. When documenting Response to Intervention (RTI) for a student, educators work with the student to record the options and tools students use and their impact on the students’ academic performance.
